A lower payment is not necessarily the same coverage for less
Compare the same drivers, vehicles, policy term, coverage limits and deductibles first. Then identify changes to New Jersey-specific selections such as PIP and the lawsuit option. Only after that is the premium a useful like-for-like comparison.
Bring both written quotes to the Manchester office, or have them available during your call. Our suggestion is to mark every line that differs before choosing a policy. That turns “Which is cheaper?” into “What am I getting for the price?”
Use this side-by-side review
| Item | What to compare |
|---|---|
| People, vehicles and dates | The same household drivers, vehicles, vehicle use and policy term. |
| Liability protection | Bodily injury and property damage limits, not just the word “liability.” |
| PIP | The selected medical limit, deductible and any eligible health-insurance-primary election. |
| Lawsuit option | Whether the Limited or Unlimited Right to Sue option is selected. |
| Uninsured / underinsured motorist | Whether included, the limits, and the policy's conditions. |
| Vehicle damage | Collision and comprehensive selections and their separate deductibles. |
| Optional benefits | Rental reimbursement, roadside assistance, limits and qualifying events. |
| Price and payment | Total premium for the same policy term, amount due and installment charges. |

Separate the New Jersey decisions
Basic and Standard auto policies differ substantially. A Basic Policy does not automatically include bodily injury liability and does not include uninsured/underinsured motorist protection. Do not treat the two policy types as equivalent simply because both quotes are labeled “auto insurance.” See the state's Basic Policy explanation.
Your PIP choices concern eligible accident-related medical benefits. The lawsuit option concerns recovery for pain and suffering under the applicable rules. These are separate selections. Ask the agent to explain the insurance choices; consult an attorney for legal advice about your rights.
Try a deductible comparison
For illustration, suppose Quote A has a $500 collision deductible and Quote B has a $1,000 deductible. Quote B might show a smaller premium, but it also asks you to bear $500 more of an otherwise covered collision loss, subject to policy terms. Those are different offers—not an automatic $500 “savings.”
The label “full coverage” is not a substitute for a list of protections. Ask which coverages are included and what exclusions apply. Allstate explains why “full coverage” is not an official policy term.
Make the decision with the differences visible
Ask for a written explanation of changes you do not understand. Compare the combined cost when considering home or renters/condo coverage with your auto policy. Discounts and savings depend on eligibility; they are not guaranteed.
Our quote checklist helps prepare for a review. Confirm the new policy and effective date before arranging cancellation of the old policy.
